Yesterday catch up.
After Sian and Julio left, nothing much more happened.
Bedtime sugars were still 22. Blood pressure was 104/58.
The young lady that had just arrived in the diagonal bed was seen by doctors and then went home – the fasted in and out on the ward for ages, according to the staff.
Because of the hypos in the morning, it was decided not to have insulin.
Settled at around 10.30, but then we were all disturbed by the cleaners arrived to clean the now empty bed and bay, but they were very noisy.
Not a good night ‘s sleep. For some reason I was having very vivid dreams that I couldn’t remember, but I was waking up every half hour or so.
Sunday 6th March – Mothering Sunday
Woke up at around 5.30, and did the usual dozing . I have drunk a whole jug of water (750ml) overnight.
Morning meds – 9 tablets with another 7 to have at breakfast ( the number is a bit misleading as there are several duplicates because if the dosage). Blood pressure 93/50, so some concern- have to keep drinking the water. Sugars 5.2, so that’s good – no hypo. The lady in the next bed asked when coffee was and was a bit disappointed when she was told that that it wasn’t until breakfast ( poss another 2 hours) so Danielle the night nurse brought her one!
Nappy change, change of position in bed and just lying here listening to the radio and doing the update.
Day nurse is Marjorie with Lucy as the assistant.
Breakfast arrived and I madly had a bread roll as well as the bran flakes!
I tried editing the blog as there are some details in there ( about other patients) that I need to edit so they are not identifiable and check some typos and Sian keeps giving me “looks” when I say I haven’t done it yet as she spent time she didn’t actually have doing the blog. Unfortunately, I noticed after doing a few of them that the date was changing when I had edited it and pressed update. Another request with Sian when she comes in later.
Drs came around, and made a note to remind the Diabetes registrar to visit. Got up at 11. I was going to watch The Sunday Politics but it turned out that it was chat time. Conversation varied from NHS, Afghanistan, families, religious organisations Aussie ladies has some strange ideas about Methodists – “are there any Methodists in England as I’ve not seen any buildings”; lady opposite goes to Methodist chapel. No idea about Quakers. All sorts …….
Pre lunch sugars 13.4 but ketones ok. Lunch was orange juice, sliced roast beef in gravy, mash and cauli with ice cream for dessert. Meds – another 3 tablets. Expecting insulin soon.
More chat after lunch including Concorde and BBQs
I am now the only person awake as the other two have had their meds which make them sleepy.
Juli and Sian arrived when I, too was asleep but I woke up. Lovely Mothering Sunday cards and presents from Sian and Ria – there was obviously a theme developing as Ria’s cars said “Congratulations Mum I turned out amazing” and Sian’s was a picture of two sheep and said Ria’s present was a little thick book “ Welsh and proud of it” and is full of information about Wales and the Welsh.sian’s present is a personalised mug that also says xxxxxxxxxxxxx Ria also sent me a video clip of her, Mylo and Rosa wishing me a happy Mothering Sunday. I must admit I got a bit weepy!
As well as the Mothering Day gifts, Juli and Sian had been shopping for me two with sheep on and one with bears and silly words.
Down to Pret and our usual table for a cup of tea, then back up for supper, which was a lovely and tender bacon chop with mash and peas and back to the cheese and biscuits ( I have abandoned the fruit in light syrup as being bad for the sugars. Pre supper sugars had shot up again to 24, so I was only allowed downstairs again on the understanding that if I started to feel “funny” or tired, I would come back up again.
It must have been a busy day at Pret, so I managed to wheel myself from the food selection bits to the counter to our table ( steering and everything!). poor Sian and Juli had very little choice of food so Julio had a wonderful smoked salmon and cream cheese short baguette and a Wiltshire ham and mustard roll, there was a huge amount of salmon in the roll. Sian had a salmon (I think) salad bowl that was delicious ( I had a forkful.,). I get quite envious of the stuff they have at Pret but it’s not proper meals. I think the desire for a steak is growing in all of us!
Had some FaceTime with Ria, Mylo and Rosa, which was lovely, but made me a bit weepy again. Felt very tired, so we came back up. As I was hoping to try another shower, I had asked Sian to get me some shower gel from the shop as for some reason I have several little bottles of shampoo in my wash bag ( they bring back memories of the hotels I got them from) and no shower gel.
Back up to bed, which was welcome. More chat, more Sian sorting out iPad ( I can’t get on to Spotify and it seems that it’s blocked), so no music.
No insulin and bedtime sugars 20.4. Blood pressure a bit low. Watched Call the Midwife uninterrupted and as it was the series finale, it was a weepy. Bit more catch up to, then settled and sleep at around 10.30.
