Had not a bad night – usual waking every half hour – hour to have a drink, but went back to sleep easily. Woke up just before 6 when my night nurse came in to do my sugars – 10.5, which is a bit higher than normal.
Having the same tightness/burning/tingling in legs and also now a tightness round my tummy/chest. It isn’t the pad too tight as it’s loose so it must be the symptoms described in the NMO booklet.
Turned the tv on at just after 6 (movement and noise in the ward, so reckoned not disturbing anyone) and the news was all about IDS’ resignation. Why was it necessary for the BBC to have a political correspondent on College Green outside the Houses of Parliament just after 6am?
Breakfast was bran flakes, and toast with supposedly diabetic marmalade and a nice cup of tea. I was one of the first to have my breakfast delivered as I was awake and ready and I am usually one of the last because of the layout of the ward so. I had hot toast!
Watched the Marr show all nice and comfy still in bed – a Sunday morning lie in. Why has the spring equinox changed to being 20th March when it was always 21st?
I had my lower half washed and nappy changed whilst in bed, and my trousers and socks and shoes put on. Then up into the cricket and wheelchair and into the bathroom where I again washed my top half and got my top half dressed while nurse changed bed. All settled.
Spent a bit of time watching the pair of blackbirds that are resident in the bush outside my window, then pre lunch sugars 20.1. Lunch was pineapple juice, chicken in gravy with roast potatoes and mixed veg (which was mostly broccoli), followed by cheese and biscuits.
I’d had texts from Sian and Juli telling me that they were going to get here early at around 1.30, and that I should meet them at the ward door so that we could go to the Grapevine. Mati my nurse had suggested that I needed to stand up on a regular basis, so after lunch I rang the bell and asked to be stood up. Did this, and had my nappy changed whilst standing up (a bit of a strain after a while, but I managed) then off I scooted. Mati saw Sian and explained that if they got here early, as long as meals were finished, they could ask to come in and if necessary wait in the day room. We went down to the Grapevine and installed ourselves in from of the tv to watch the highlights of the Grand Prix. Sian related the phone call she’d had with Bob from the terrace on the ship in Tenerife.
Robert and Owen arrived and we had a lovely time chatting and catching up and telling me about the rugby yesterday. Robert had pictures of Italian supporters with pizza boxes on their heads! Then another surprise, when Ria, Gyles, Mylo and Rosa appeared! So nearly everyone I write this update for were here. Rosa was a bit quiet to start with, but that was because she’d been asleep in the car. She soon woke up and was walking around the place. Owen and Mylo were playing hide and seek. The Langstone Lot are going on holiday on Friday, so they wanted to call in and see me before they went, for which I am very grateful. It is nice seeing Owen and Mylo playing.
Eventually most people left, leaving just Juli so we went back to the room and installed me so that he could go home before coming back again later.
I sat for a bit feeling tired, then called for a stand up and nappy change. We tried the commode again, but nothing happened, so even gravity failed! Back in wheelchair for supper. Pre supper sugars high – 24.6. Was it the cup of soup from the vending machine? I think I’d like to talk to the diabetes nurse or dr, but no one around today, it being a Sunday.
Supper arrived – minestrone soup and a tuna salad with a HUGE amount of tuna. It was lovely – crisp lettuce, peppers, cucumber, tomato and cress and I was asked if I’d like salad cream, so I said yes and then I did the naughty thing and asked if I was allowed some salt. I was told that it wasn’t good for me, but it was ok. It’s odd how different places have different rules – everywhere else has included little sachets of salt and pepper on the meal tray. I am no longer on the food chart, but am still getting meals on red trays – we’ll see what happens tomorrow. The aux came to explain that although I had ordered a banana for dessert, they hadn’t sent any, so I could have a choice of ice cream, rice pudding, cheesecake or jelly. She was holding most of them in cartons as she asked, but then disappeared (with all the desserts). For ages. I thought I’d been forgotten, but then dessert reappeared – this time out of the carton and in a proper bowl!
After supper, did more sitting and doing my arrow words puzzles then Sian and Juli appeared around the door again.
Took me off to the day room as the Grapevine door was shut. I tried to get them to use the scrabble game there, or the dominos, but they decided not to. We sat and chatted until nearly going home time. I have freesat tv in my room, but I have no tv guide, so Juli found a guide app and Sian downloaded it for me – so at least I know what the choices are I stead of scrolling down through all of the channels trying to see what’s on. They then left, and I am watching channel 4 news before a canal programme comes on.
My legs are quite painful, and I will talk to the physio tomorrow when I have a session booked.
Then it’s being put away tidy to bed and hopefully another reasonable night’s sleep. We do have one gentleman who shouts a lot during the night, but to be honest, I don’t take much notice.
More tomorrow.
Goodnight.
