Sat up (well, folded myself up) for breakfast, which was Bran Flakes, egg and bread. Managed to eat all the Bran Flakes, but left half the egg and bread (and the tea as couldn’t fancy it). Asked if I wanted to get up, but said no. Waves of pain, until the pain killers (sorry, managers!) kicked in, when it became bearable. Watched tv.
Just before lunch time, got up. Had an enthusiastic care assistant that did the whole thing in bed (I had no energy to object to say I could do it by myself). I think this must be a reaction to all the exertion yesterday (but it was well worth it!). Pre lunch sugars 11.9. Had chicken and mushroom pie, cabbage and potatoes followed by cheese and biscuits. Still feeling a bit nauseous, so left about half. No feeling inside, so didn’t ask to go to loo. Blood pressure 107/58.
Visit by Mum and Dad, who had been brought by Brenda and Ivor, it was so lovely to see them – not seen Brenda and Ivor for far too long, so we had a bit of a catch up. They’d brought me a present of lovely hand and nail stuff (hands get very dry here). Mum and Dad had also come bearing gifts – a lovely top I may wear tomorrow, a necklace, book, lipstick, more 4711 wipes (I love these – they are great if you wipe your neck when you are hot and then stuff it in your bra. Get a lovely whiff of lavender when you move!) and had run out. Dad was also convinced that I was starving and brought a Parma ham sandwich and chicken drumsticks and apples. Agreed that Juli and Sian could have them as their mealtimes are very disrupted with me in here!!
During the visit, Alice came to say that she had a physio slot available and did I want a go on the cycle. We agreed that we’d wait until after my visitors had gone. Then Julio and Sian arrived and we had another round of coffees. Time for my visitors from Wales to leave (to avoid traffic around Newport). When they’d gone, S & J and I talked about the board meeting they’d had this morning, and then Alice arrived to take me to physio. She invited Sian and Juli to come too, to see what we were doing and so that they could help with my exercises. Did some bed exercises that were a variation of the ones I’d had before, but could do on my own. Then I did a series of standing and balancing exercises, then Sian left to go back to the office. I then did some walking with the walking frame, whilst Juli followed with the chair in case it was needed. Went back to my room, and Juli left to go back to the office for another meeting.
Pre supper sugars 20.6. Supper ham salad and unfortunately the kitchen hadn’t sent any fruit, so I had cheese and biscuits again.
Very busy for staff after supper – new arrival (not sure who or where they are) and both M and the now-not-so-new lady. Both these now need virtual 1:1 care as they walk up and down the corridor. Despite everyone being busy, I had to go to the loo, so called the bell.
Back from loo, I sent some emails – to Mum and Dad to include some info about holidays with people with mobility and sight issues (gleaned from all the info given to me yesterday) and the NMO team to say thanks for yesterday.
Then fell into zombie mode – Masterchef and the secret Britain. I was going to watch James May’s programme, but am saving that for later.
So, ready for bed ( nearly quarter to 10) and will ring the bell soon.
Goodnight!
