After this, I spent some time playing games and listening to the news, then Newsnight, then the radio. I ate quite a lot of Rich Tea biscuits and a few chocolate buttons.
Good night’s sleep, then woken at 6 by Ellen, who as well as taking my bloods (10.2 – blame the biscuits), spent a while tending the nether regions again. More cream, and advice to make sure that I get checked during the day, and go to bed early to relieve the pressure.
Breakfast as usual, with meds (insulin increased to 40), then Julie came to get me up, washed and dressed. This took some time, due to the amount of cream involved again (!) then sat and did more knitting, while various things happened around me (lots of cleaning, cup of tea, etc).
Weighed (less than last week – must be all the physio effort), then went to loo – more for walking practise and to get up out of chair rather than needing to go. Pre lunch sugars 8.7, so the increased insulin is working. Quiche salad and a banana. This time the banana was peeled and in a bowl, but not cut up. BP 95/54. This time needed to go to loo, so another walk.
Sitting quietly watching tv when Juli arrived – with Mylo! Got wheeled down to Grapevine, where we were met my Ria, Rosa and Sian coming up towards the ward. Rosa walking really well! Gyles had been left at home with a list of jobs to do, including sorting the lawn out. We ensconced ourselves on the easy chairs near the tv. I gave them their Easter eggs and presents. I think they went down well – got Mylo a football book and Rosa a set of plastic boxes with pictures of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. She played with them a lot. Had a lovely visit, catching up about their holiday – Rosa had a lovely flower bracelet that was a holiday purchase.
Eventually the Langstone lot left and Sian, Juli and I went back to my room to put clean clothes away and take dirty laundry back. Visiting ended and then it was supper time. Sugars 12.6. This is looking good. I had minestrone soup, then fish in parsley sauce, sauté potatoes and peas. I was getting concerned about timing and loo visits, but all was ok. Paul tried to deliver a lovely looking cheesecake, but I said it wasn’t mine. There was a cock up, on the catering front – no cheese and biscuits and no fruit. So choice of rice pudding, cheesecake, mousse or ice cream. Non of which seemed particularly diabetic friendly. However, I had been watching a repeat of Bake Off Crème with all the amazing patisseries (been interrupted last time), and I’d seen the cheesecake, and the sugars were reasonable, so I thought “sod it” and had cheesecake. It was lovely. I’ll just go easy on the biscuits later. Cup of tea, and I really needed to go to the loo. Timing is an issue – I don’t get all that much warning, and it does take me a while to walk the 5 metres into the bathroom. Rang bell, Jasmine popped her head around door to see what I wanted and said that she would be with me in a minute. In the meantime, I got as ready as I could and pushed my table away, swung the footrests out of the way and pulled the walking frame nearer. Jasmine arrived, and we proceeded into to the bathroom. I explained about the state of my nether regions and that Beccy was going to put the cream on. Jasmine left me on the loo while she went to get the necessary stuff.
*****too much information warning***
After I’d finished, I stood up at the loo with the frame while Jasmine washed me front and back, dried me really well, and administered copious amounts of various creams. By this time, I was struggling, and had to sit down on the loo again while legs recovered a bit. Then ready to stand up, get trainer pants pulled up and ready to walk back to chair
***ok again now****
I knew it was going to be a struggle getting back to the chair, but there was no option as the chair was in my room. There are two ways of walking with a walking frame. The correct way (I’ve mentioned this before) - bend hip, knee, ankle, but heel down, then reverse. Repeat with other leg. Or the Wrong Trousers way – straight legs. It was all Wrong Trousers, and I was sweating by the time I got to the chair, only to discover Juli behind the curtain. Flopped down in chair, and got him to wheel me down to Klix machine.
Got a bit weepy – it had been lovely seeing Rosa, Mylo and Ria, but it brought home to me the things I can’t do at the moment like picking Rosa up, following her around as she’s walking etc. Me being upset then upset Juli, but we soon got over it by reflecting on how far I had come since last week, and the overall progress made.
Talked to R, who had been stuck in bed until mid afternoon because the hoist he needs had malfunctioned and the technician they’d called out hadn’t been able to fix it until then. He wasn’t a happy bunny.
Back to room, said goodbye to Juli and decided I’d ask to be put into bed, but not go to bed – subtle difference! Changed into nightie, got into bed and had a nice chat with the two care assistants about birds, nests, ducks, and the latest idea in America which is a sort of car wash for dogs in parks – booths you use to wash, rinse and dry your dog after its walk/play/getting dirty in the park.
So, am now on my pressure mattress feeling more comfortable. My light is on and my door open – at least if Mb comes in, she can’t get on my bed!! It is actually very hot, but I’ve been drinking my water, and have used one of the 4711 sachets Mum gave me, so that’s ok.
Tomorrow, I shall ask to walk a bit more - I want to be more mobile for the home visit next week, which is on Friday, and to avoid more pressure.
Will let you know what, if anything happens with Mb!
Goodnight!
