Woke up at 6 for sugars. Didn’t know what they were for a while as the nurse was called to an emergency before telling me. I found out later they were 7.2. Went back to sleep until breakfast – this is getting boring, but it was the usual All Bran, toast and jam. Tea arrived at same time! Got up at around 9.30 when I’d asked to go to loo. How much walking and dressing I do, and where it gets done, depends on who is helping me. I am trying to do more myself, but I can’t reach my feet to wash them, although I can do most of the rest (if I’m allowed to).
Did some more surfing (of the Internet sort!) and knitting, then pre lunch sugars 13.6. The increased insulin seems to be getting the sugars down, and today was the first day of a reduced steroid dose (I think - well, there were only 6 little steroid tablets instead of the usual 8). Lunch was roast chicken, roast potatoes and mixed veg, followed by (surprise!) cheese and biscuits. Another visit to the bathroom.
Sian and Juli arrived – Sian had brought a bottle of 7Up free, so we had that rather than venturing through the scary corridor. The Grapevine was very full again. We talked, and sat. Everyone very tired. Whilst there I did some exercises and stood up, both Sian & Juli were impressed, and Sian had videoed it so I can see that I'm not as wobbly as I thought. They had brought me some clean clothes, so we put them away, and Sian took my dirty clothes. She also took my knitting pattern away to photocopy so that I could mark the instructions for the relevant size I’m making.
Started filling in the blue badge application, and this time I saved it so I could complete it later as it was approaching supper time and after yesterday, I don’t trust the “extend session” button. This is going to be a long process – I still don’t fit the boxes.
Pre supper sugars 17.6 – first time under 20 for ages. Supper was minestrone soup (again, I think I’ll leave that in future), tuna mayo salad and a banana. When I have fruit, I am often asked if I want it peeled/ cut up. No, thank, you, I can manage an apple or banana.
Just time for another visit to the bathroom (you have to teach your bowels who is boss), before Juli arrived for the second visit, bringing the knitting pattern. They had managed to rearrange the vehicles in the barn whilst back home. We tried to get out of the ward but it took time for the door to be unlocked. Through the wardrobe to Narnia and the drinks machine in MIU. Quite a crowd in the waiting room.
Back to the day room, where we were the only people, then back to my room where Juli helped me get my clothes ready for tomorrow (can be a bit of a hassle explaining what I want to wear, and I have physio sessions on 4 days next week, so need to have appropriate clothes!).
Now watching Tony Robinson’s programme about Hidden Britain by Drone. Why would you spend £5m on a house at Sandbanks that’s squashed next to another one? Although they are very nice houses in themselves.
My nice Indian nurse Mita has just come on duty after a couple of days off and she came in to tell me about her weekend – they are selling their house, so I had a progress report and an update on her children.
So, that’s it for now. A busier day tomorrow, with an OT session in the morning (that’ll be getting me up and washed and dressed) and a physio session in the afternoon. I’m hoping that I’ll be allowed to do my transfers by walking frame not the cricket, but we’ll see what happens.
Goodnight!
